Overview
Every August, the Alberta Golf Foundation (AGF) awards approximately $50,000 in scholarship funding to more than 30 recipients through funds raised from our casino fundraisers as well as through donations received from individuals and corporations.
Applicants must be residents of Alberta and attending a post-secondary program (which could be outside the province). There are no golfing ability requirements for most of the scholarships being offered, and recipients are selected based on their academic standing and financial need.
The following is a list of the scholarships available:
Alberta Golf Foundation Scholarships are awarded to deserving students based on academic standing and financial need. Each year the Foundation uses funds raised through our Casino fundraising activities to top up existing scholarships or provide new ones. The awarded amounts range from $500 to $3,000.
Bob Rintoul Memorial Scholarship AGF will award an annual scholarship of at least $1,000 preferably to a southern Alberta male student who is pursuing a post-secondary education. The recipient will also receive a copy of Bob’s book “No Regrets, No Apologies”.
Charles C. Reid Scholarship AGF will award 10 scholarships of $1,000 to students pursuing post-secondary educations with preference going to Golf Management and Turfgrass Management Degrees or students playing on a collegiate golf team. This program is funded by the Estate of Charles C. Reid, formerly an enthusiastic patron of golf from Banff.
Christa Spahmann Memorial Scholarship AGF will give priority to awarding two annual $1,000 scholarships to a Southern Albertan female golfer who is pursuing a post-secondary degree. The Scholarship was created in the memory of Christa Spahmann, a young, gifted golfer, known for her beautiful smile and outgoing personality. The recipient of the scholarship will display these qualities.
Festival Family Scholarship The Festival family supports a student-athlete pursuing excellence in the classroom and on the golf course with an annual $5,000 scholarship. This scholarship is provided to a golfer who plays for their university or college team, requiring financial assistance in order to pursue their education.
Frank Lindsay Memorial Scholarship AGF will award an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a male Albertan golfer 23 years of age or younger pursuing a post-secondary education. The Scholarship was created in the memory of Frank Lindsay, a well-known and respected amateur golfer from Calgary.
Jeff Llewellyn Memorial Scholarship AGF will award a minimum of one $1,000 to students pursuing a post-secondary education in the area of Sports Administration with an emphasis on those pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, Economics, or Business Management degrees.
Lola Rozsa Scholarship AGF will award two annual scholarships of $1,000 to a male or female Albertan golfer 23 years of age or younger pursuing a post-secondary education. Lola was a past president of the Alberta Ladies’ Golf Association and a prominent supporter of city and provincial ladies initiatives.
Marg Condon Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2020 in memory of Marg Condon. Annually, $1,000 will be provided to a student pursuing a post-secondary education.
Mike Bower Memorial Scholarship Mike Bower started playing the game of golf at age 11 and by the conclusion of his junior career would capture two consecutive Alberta Junior Championships. Donations to the fund are accepted from family and friends annually. This annual $1,000 scholarship is provided to a golfer 24 years of age or younger that is pursuing a post-secondary education, pending fund availability.
R.E. Courage Memorial Scholarship AGF will award an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a male or female Albertan golfer 24 years of age or younger pursuing a post-secondary education The R.E. Courage Memorial Scholarship was created in the memory of Dick Courage of Calgary. Always a favourite coach in minor sports, Dick was well known for his ability to inspire and motivate his young players.
